Joan Miró

The Spaniard Joan Miró, whose centennial we celebrate this year, is one of a small number of artists who contributed decisively to the modern spirit. The most gifted painter to be associated with Surrealism, Miró pursued an essential art, creating a universe of great intensity where humor is never far away; freedom and rigor, poetry and craft are combined in a unique manner. 

Argentaria recognizes that few institutions in the world have done as much as The Museum of Modern Art to promote the work of Miró. Among the first to recognize his genius, the Museum included Miró prominently in its pioneer exhibition of 1936,""Fantastic Art, Dada, Surrealism," and five years later, in 1941, mounted the first major museum retrospective of the artist's oeuvre.

El pintor más dotado que se haya asociado al Surrealismo, Miró persiguió un arte esencial, creando un universo de gran intensidad donde el humor nunca está lejos; libertad y rigor, poesía y oficio se combinan de manera única.

Argentaria reconoce que pocas instituciones en el mundo han hecho tanto como el Museo de Arte Moderno para promover la obra de Miró. Entre los primeros en reconocer su genio, el Museo incluyó a Miró de forma destacada en su exposición pionera de 1936,""Arte Fantástico, Dadá, Surrealismo", y cinco años más tarde, en 1941, organizó la primera gran retrospectiva museística de la obra del artista.
